Open World Games

Maybe it is just me, but I don't particularly find the new wave of open world games a whole lot of fun. I mean, yes, I can do lots of things that I can't do in other games, but they are so big and daunting that I usually just lose interest and start goofing off.
I think that there is also something to be said for a well crafted linear game. The people who make games are, for the most part, not idiots and can make good story-driven games. I don't see anyone complaining when Infinity Ward releases Call of Duty games with linear stories because they are so well orchestrated.

I agree. If I start goofing off in an open world game, I eventually loose interest in the goofing off and quit. If I make the game as "linear" as possible, I can play it. I just think of it as places I will go eventually if I continue playing the game. Then I actually play it.
